When fishes arrive, they usually pale and faded colors. This is more for aliens or wilds betta. Please be patient and give them a day to acclimate and adjust to new environment they will be brighten up soon.
Acclimation:
- Temperature Match: Ensure the water in the bag/container your Betta came in is at the same temperature as the tank water.
- Float the Bag: Float the sealed bag in the tank for about 15-20 minutes to let the water inside adjust to the tank temperature.
- Water Mixing: Gradually add small amounts of tank water to the bag over the next 15-20 minutes to help the Betta adjust to the new water parameters.
- Release: Gently net the Betta out of the bag and release it into the tank. Avoid adding the water from the bag into the tank to prevent any diseases from spreading.
Tank Setup:
- Tank Size: A minimum of 5 gallons is recommended for Betta fish. Larger tanks provide more stable water parameters.
- Filtration: A gentle filter is needed to keep the water clean. Bettas prefer calm water, so choose a filter with a low flow rate.
- Heater: Bettas are tropical fish and need water temperatures between 75-82°F (24-28°C). A heater will maintain a stable temperature.
- Substrate: Smooth substrates like sand or rounded gravel are preferable to avoid injuring the Betta's delicate fins.
- Decoration: Provide hiding spots and resting places with live or silk plants, caves, and decorations. Ensure there are no sharp edges that could tear the Betta's fins.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 75-82°F (24-28°C)
- pH Level: 6.5-7.5
- Ammonia/Nitrite/Nitrate: Keep levels at 0 ppm ammonia and nitrite, and below 20 ppm nitrate. Regular water changes are essential.
- Hardness: 2-15 dGH
Feeding:
- Quality Food: Offer a varied diet of high-quality Betta pellets, flakes, frozen or live foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, or daphnia.
- Portion Control: Feed small amounts once or twice a day. Only provide what the Betta can consume in a few minutes to prevent overfeeding and water pollution.
Maintenance:
- Water Changes: Perform weekly water changes of 25-50% to maintain water quality.
- Filter Maintenance: Rinse mechanical filter media in dechlorinated water to remove debris, but avoid changing all filter media at once to preserve beneficial bacteria.
- Tank Cleaning: Remove uneaten food, debris, and algae regularly. Use an algae scraper for glass tanks.
- Water Testing: Regularly test water parameters to ensure they're within the appropriate range.
