Malaysian Trumpet Snails — Substrate-Aerating Clean-Up Crew
Malaysian Trumpet Snails (Melanoides tuberculata) are one of the most useful invertebrates you can add to a planted tank. Burrowing through substrate by night and surfacing during the day, they aerate the soil, prevent anaerobic dead spots, and consume leftover food, decaying plant matter, and soft algae. Their cone-shaped shells and peaceful nature make them safe with shrimp, fish, and live plants — they won't touch healthy foliage.

- Tank size: Any size — great for nano tanks and large aquariums alike
- Water parameters: Temp 68–82°F, pH 7.0–8.0, GH 8–18 (harder water supports shell growth)
- Diet: Detritivore — leftover food, biofilm, decaying plants, and soft algae. Supplement with sinking pellets or calcium-rich foods if population is large
- Tankmates: Peaceful with shrimp and community fish. Avoid loaches, pufferfish, and assassin snails, which will hunt them
