Amano Shrimp (Caridina multidentata) are one of the most effective and popular algae-eating shrimp in the freshwater aquarium hobby. Larger and hardier than Neocaridina, they're prized for their voracious appetite for hair algae, soft green algae, and uneaten food — keeping your planted tank clean and balanced. A staple of Takashi Amano-style aquascapes, they're peaceful, active, and safe with most community fish.

  • Tank size: 10 gallons or larger; group of 5+ recommended
  • Water parameters: Temp 68–78°F, pH 6.5–7.5, GH 6–8, KH 2–6
  • Diet: Omnivore — primarily algae and biofilm. Supplement with shrimp pellets, blanched vegetables, and high-quality flake food when algae is scarce
  • Tankmates: Peaceful and best with small, non-aggressive fish (tetras, rasboras, corydoras, otocinclus). Avoid cichlids, large gouramis, and predatory species
