Nerite Snails
Product description
Nerite Snails — The Best Algae Eaters for Freshwater Tanks
Nerite Snails are widely considered the most effective algae-eating snails in the freshwater hobby. Available in a variety of patterns and shapes — including zebra, tiger, and horned varieties — they tirelessly graze on green spot algae, brown diatoms, and soft algae from glass, decor, and plant leaves. Best of all, they cannot reproduce in freshwater, so you'll never deal with population explosions.
Care Guide
- Tank size: 5 gallons or larger; one snail per 5–10 gallons recommended
- Water parameters: Temp 72–80°F, pH 7.0–8.5, GH 8–18 (hard, alkaline water keeps shells strong)
- Diet: Algae specialist — green spot algae, diatoms, biofilm. Supplement with algae wafers or blanched vegetables in low-algae tanks
- Tankmates: Peaceful with shrimp and most community fish. Avoid loaches, pufferfish, cichlids, and assassin snails
Variety
