My first betta breeding - JustFishyThing

My first betta breeding

Butterfly Male and Halfmoon Female

This was the first pair I got, both from Petsmart.

:( the female died a month after bred, probably my bad with my first time attempt to setup a sorority tank.

Tank Setup: Square 30cm x 30cm , water fill 20cm deep. Plastic wrap and a green big green leave floating on water (I didn't have any plant)

Breeding Date: June 30th

I was very inexperience to breeding and raising fries. I didn't mean to get into breeding but these pair seems to be interested so I just try it out without really preparing. I tried to do research along the way

The first time they spawn, I didn't get any fries, I guess because I was disturbing them too much and even attempted to move my breeding tank to another spot in the house. I kept checking on them every hour for few days since they spawning.

I tried again a week later and they were quick getting to business :) It's call LOVE, this time I get 300+ fries ( Probably more I didn't count until they were 2 weeks)

At their 2 months I counted again there was about 210 fries, so I guess a lot damage has been done there. One time I was going on vacation when they're few weeks old, so I had to leave them unattended for almost 4 days.

Rehoming first spawn:

  • Local Fish Shop (LFS): There was only 2 LFSs in my area and only one taking the fish for store credit. I gave 40 fishes to LFS for their store credit, spent on some plants and tanks :)
  • Friends:. Luckily I have known several friends interested in fishes, I tried to give them as much they can take : 30 fishes
  • Local Pick Up: I posted on few website for free local pick up, make few new connections with local hobbiest: 30 fishes
  • Online shipping: I learned how to pack and ship fishes online, so far I have made over 10 shipments, none of fishes was DOA so I'm super happy and proud of myself :D. 30 fishes
