Overview

Otocinclus Catfish

Meet a tiny algae grazer with a gentle personality. Otocinclus catfish, often called otos, spend their time exploring aquarium plants, glass, and decor as they graze on soft algae and biofilm. Their small size and peaceful nature make them a lovely addition to a well-established planted freshwater aquarium.

A peaceful planted-tank companion

Otos are social fish that do best with others of their kind and peaceful tankmates. Give them plenty of plants, hiding places, and surfaces to explore. Avoid aggressive companions that may chase or outcompete them for food.

Care and feeding

Choose a mature, fully cycled aquarium with stable water conditions rather than a newly set-up tank. Natural algae and biofilm are important food sources, but do not rely on algae alone: offer suitable sinking algae foods and blanched vegetables, and check that each fish is eating. Keep the water clean and well oxygenated, and acclimate new arrivals carefully.

Otocinclus can help with soft algae, but they are not a replacement for routine aquarium maintenance. A stable tank and a consistent food supply are the keys to keeping these little grazers thriving.

Shipping and pickup

Live animals usually ship early in the week to reduce weekend transit delays.

Orders may be held when destination weather or carrier timing creates avoidable risk.

Local pickup is available when the order and pickup window are confirmed.
